Art Basel Day 1
24 November 2021
First stop was to view the incredible Simone Leigh at Hauser & Wirth. We were dazzled by the intellect and beauty of the work
After a hearty breakfast meeting with Sarah Slappey, Lizzie, Olivia, and I headed to Liste Art Fair
A. ROMY showed some lovely Ceramics by young Swiss artist Maya Hottarek
I had never seen such an ambitious lamp form
The question is, is this art or design?
There seemed to be a great deal of organic forms floating around the fair, much like this sculpture by Julie Villard and Simon Brossard
Sandwich gallery presented a yoga and dog show at their booth, 'Doga' by artist Anais Touchot, reminded me of my time in Finland during lockdown
Yoga with Lumi and Milo
Drei showing Phung-Tien Phan explored the social implications of everyday objects
Was great checking out Theo Triantafyllidis’ AR artworks at The Breeder
Later that day I visited Design Miami/Basel and there was plenty to see! Lizzie and I started our visit by taking a rest in Harry Nuriev’s 'The Elevator'
On the way into the fair was incredible installation presented by Superblue, including Sou Fujimoto's 'Forest of Space' which reminded me almost of piano keys. In the evening was Basel | Unlimited
We all loved the Urs Fischer 'Bread House', causing lots of discussion about what it represented. What I do know is it made me hungry, perhaps this is an example of his unique approach to sculpture
