Art Basel Day 2
26 November 2021
Cindy Sherman’s Icelandic woman was quite wonderful. Her tapestries at Sprüth Magers were magnificent
It was great to be united with Benoît and Javier at Peres Projects, it had been such a long time since we had seen each other
A great painting, ‘Expansion Vessel’, 2021 by Toby Ziegler at Simon Lee Gallery
‘Eve in the Garden’, 2021 was my favourite painting by Keith Tyson at Hauser & Wirth.
It was wonderful to see Samara Scott at The Sunday Painter. So happy to see her artworks in ‘Mixing It Up: Painting Today’ at the Hayward Gallery in London too
We spotted Darren Bader’s AI installation at Sadie Coles HQ which was quite awesome
My favourite work in the whole art fair was this incredible mask by Gillian Wearing
Ed Atkins created a fascinating work called ‘Children’ which comprised of three frames each with over a hundred Post it notes under the glass. Every day Ed would leave a Post it note in his kid’s lunchbox
At Thomas Dane Gallery there was an ambitious Lynda Benglis work
Rose B. Simpson, at Jessica Silverman, is a stunning new artist from the Santa Fe area. Fascinating and alternative; the work is about the psychological, emotional, sculptural, social and spiritual, Rose wants these works to cure
Trey Abdella’s ‘Washed Out’ was a wonderful piece with so many underlying narratives. Such a strong art work by such a young artist
Then on my way out, I was dazzled by this incredibly positive work by Alex Da Corte called ‘The Big Little Falls’
And at Hauser & Wirth we discovered this sculpture by one of our very own past Master Class Artist Lecturers, Thomas J Price
