Art Basel: Day Two
22 July 2019
We were very excited to be visiting Dora Budor’s magnificent show ‘I am Gong’ at Kunsthalle Basel. I was incredibly impressed by the works, conceptual and visual at the same time. Dora was fascinated by the facade of an old concert hall and brought this into her work by creating vitrines of sand and volcanos which erupted according to the vibrations of the building work outside
Stepping out of the museum and into the hot sunshine, there were sunbathers instead of builders everywhere soaking up the rays
Back at the fair I loved the painting by Sue Williams at 303 Gallery called ‘Yesterday’
I fell for Sophie Von Hellerman’s new work
At Pilar Corrias there was much to see! ‘Prism Pussy’ by Tala Madani was the best work I have seen of hers so far
At Galerie Max Hetzler I liked the Julian Schnabel
I was fascinated by Laurent Grasso’s film ‘OttO’ in Unlimited
A simple luminous sculpture made from onyx and LED by Laurent Grasso. ‘The Owl of Minerva’ is a well-known little owl which accompanied Athena the Roman Goddess of Wisdom
