ART BASEL HIGHLIGHTS 2/3
22 June 2014
From one art fair to another...
Salon 94 where we acquired our first Andy Coolquitt.
Then we crossed the road to Unlimited, where we all got to see all our favourite artists on a large scale. We weaved our way through the voluminous spaces and fresh from his residency in Finland, Sam Falls who shows us his dazzling work. A large cloth draped with the imprints of used crates spread out in a formulated but poetical pattern.
My highlight however, was viewing ‘unidisplay’ by Carsten Nicolai, which involved three projectors showing a work of eternity.
Then the serious moment of our trip Art Basel Art Fair came when it opened at 11am for a mob of top VIP collectors fighting to enter the arena. Art Basel is shaped like two donuts on top of each other but square in shape. The lower floor is where all the ‘serious art’ is displayed including many secondary market works and upstairs is the younger galleries. There were some interesting works, some good, some not so good.
Simon Lee was showing an impressive Dexter Dalwood painting. A great artist that the Zabludowicz Collection has collected for many years.
Jeff Koons’ work with the Incredible Hulk pushing a flower barrel welcomed us at the entrance of Gagosian's booth. I immediately hit the Insta button @anitazart and Voila!
