Back in Vegas
23 February 2017
I find myself in Vegas checking out the most
incredible residency programme the Zab team have set up for the second year
running. We’ve privately taken to calling it ZabluVegas
One of the highlights was checking out the Las Vegas treasure trove of public art. First stop was CityCentre or Aria as it’s mostly now known, it has the biggest secret sculptural park in the world and we spotted so many wonderful pieces - James Turrell’s, Nancy Spiro’s and a wonderfully mammoth Henry Moore
There was art everywhere, here’s English born Tim Bavington’s work hidden amongst the Chinese New Year celebrations
The group on the residency were a lovely bunch; Casey Jane Ellison, Hannah Perry and Sara Cwynar alongside Zab’s Maitreyi Maheshwari and Tif Zab. We had a great trip out into the desert to visit Ugo Rondinone’s ‘Seven Magic Mountains’
They were utterly magnificent, the Art Production Fund and Nevada Museum of Art had really supported a masterpiece. Hannah Perry in front of the beautiful, colourful monsters
At the same time, Roy Zab. was working with D*Face and Shepard Fairy. Fairy’s piece ‘Cultivate Harmony’ was this huge 115ft tattoo-esque work on the side of Plaza
We had a lovely meal in the local Thai restaurant. It felt like the buzzing nucleus of the Las Vegas art world
We found Letha Wilson on residency at Nevada University and then joining forces with Sara, Hannah and Matthew Day Jackson
At a secret location, somewhere very mysterious in Las Vegas, somewhere I cannot possibly disclose, we visited Matthew and his new project. It will be unveiled in the next six months and you will be astonished!
