Back to London - but just for a moment...
12 June 2011
First to is to visit to the ICA ...
Matt Williams gives us a special tour of the super Pablo Bronstein show. The new ICA team with Gregor Muir at the helm have worked wonders in transforming the space and atmosphere.
Then of to PINTA art fair where I come across some interesting art. Ivan Navarro’s lovely drum set hits the spot.
It is rare these days that Lizzie and I discover a new great artist in an art fair but we managed we came across Ricardo Alcaide and found his work very interesting.
Plastique Fantastique gave an amazing sound performance they were incredibly entertaining and filled the gallery with weird and wonderful sounds and words.... my favourite bit was the Sponge Bob rant....
a mystery gallery assistant adorned with his/her avatar mask
Jack Strange circle drawing performance.
Ellen Mara De Wachter reaping the rewards of a wonderful evening chatting to Jack.
Then it was out and about... First to Victoria Miro to see Yayoi Kasama. Too sweet for me but the work was lovely. She has this obsession with the pumpkin and is a must have for many collections.
Jacob Julian Ziolkowski show at Parasol was interesting. Jacob’s painting is getting much more bolder and more un-politically correct.
Then back to 176 where Fergal Stapleton is giving a talk about the collection with the support of lovely Rebecca Warren. I felt so sad as it is the last day of ‘The Shape We’re In’.
To the West End to revisit MDJ’s bomber at Hauser and Wirth.
Then Sasnal at Sadie Coles which was an incredible show. This is a painting of the one that got away! Would have loved this for the collection. Damn!
Stephen Friedman Gallery we loved his deflated balloons by Tom Friedman
The Grand Finale and Voila - The Piccadilly Community Centre - wow... I was blown over. This is a full blown community centre landed like a flying saucer in the middle of Piccadilly with the word free.... by Christoph Büchel. The billboard was overflowing with amazing information.
It was bake a cake day.
Guy on the roof reading Liberal Defence of Murder
Some one squatting in the roof.
Group of guys playing war games my LiL SiS Yana in the background if you look carefully asks them why they use this space and they answer because it is free.
Kids making big use of the computer room.
Chappy who seems to be running the space question was he put there or did he just turn up and took over?
The board outside says it all. A concoction of people - all sorts of size, race and gender had taken over.
And the imprint of the gallery name says the rest of it.
Finally it was off to Masons Yard where we went to fashion designer Duro Olowu’s shop and Mumushka, Babushka, Lil Sis, Tiffany and I had our photo taken. Jen and Ron had to run off back to San Francisco , but with them last night I met our new Duchess of Cambridge. Katherine is quite lovely and loved hearing all about emerging art.
