Straight to Art Basel Unlimited, where I was in awe of Huang Yong Ping’s ‘American Kitchen and Chinese Cockroaches’, which is inspired by a conversation between Richard Nixon and Nikita Khrushchev
The Andra Ursuța work ‘Vandal Lust’ was full of meaning and takes inspiration from Yves Klein and Bas Jan Ader. The work is playing homage to Ilya Kabakov’s room sized installation ‘The Man Who Flew into Space from His Apartment’, questioning the constraints of freedom under oppressive governments
It was great to see Marianna Simnett’s film ‘Prayers for Roadkill’ on show, and in such a dramatic setting. Simnett is exploring the micro violence that occurs underneath the wheels of vehicles. Spread around the space are also some of her sculptures of hybrid humans
I noticed the most incredible Pistoletto work at Galleria Continua, where children are hung on a tree, and to my horror, the art audience below are bowing their head towards their phones, unaware of what hangs above them
Here is a detail of a work by Louisa Gagliardi, the biggest painting I have ever seen, with so much narrative and messaging, shown by Rodolphe Janssen
Thomas J Price’s work was also very large, and had such an omniscient presence

There was something mesmerising about Laure Prouvost’s work at carlier gebauer
