Basel Day 3
12 August 2022
Back at Art Basel for one last time, to discover, learn and perhaps even add to the collection…! At Sean Kelly, we discover Laurent Grasso’s ‘Studies into the Past’
It was great to bump into Kevin Abosch, here with his work ‘Crypto is a Scam’
At Thomas Dane in front of a magnificent Calder sculpture was Caragh Thuring’s work ‘Maeght II’
To our delight, at Altman Siegel Gallery was an incredible presentation of Lynn Hershman Leeson
Loved this work by Markus Selg ‘Mind in the Cave’ at Galerie Guido W. Baudach
One of the highlights of this trip was getting to see Ugo Rondinone’s ‘nuns + monks’. It was the most satisfying display in the whole art fair, a perfect place to relax the eye away from the bustle of people
At Sadie Coles, the work of Jordan Wolfson was incredibly rebellious and thought provoking
At White Cube was Tracey Emin’s work ‘It is like a dream’. Very poignant and sad
I loved this wonderful artwork by Ewa Juszkiewicz at Almine Rech
Such joy to see the Hugh Hayden at Clearing Gallery
Another great scientific work by Keith Tyson at Hauser & Wirth
At Kunsthalle was an amazing show by Michael Armitage ‘You, Who Are Still Alive’ where he is exploring mythology popular culture and art historical references. He often refers to civil unrest and humanity in his work
On the first floor was ‘Hic et Nunc’ by artist Berenice Olmedo. The works were incredibly moving and look at prosthetics and the wonder of science. She is exploring the various technological enhancements of the body
Then followed a beautiful dinner hosted by Kunsthalle and White Cube
At neugerriemschneider was the magnificent work of Andreas Eriksson
At JTT, it was great to see Doreen Lynette Garner’s work ‘Please God, I hope when I die, it’ll be in the summer time’
Puppies Puppies’ ‘WOMAN WITH A PENIS” was a show stopper at Balice Hertling
As was Puppies Puppies’ ‘A sculpture for Trans Women A sculpture for the Non-Binary Femmes A sculpture for Two-Spirit People. I am a woman. I don’t care what you think.’ in Parcours. For me, this work was by far the best in the whole of Basel
Also in Parcours, we saw Oscar Murillo’s ‘Social Cataracts’, where he presents a new series of wearable sculptures in collaboration with school students. A great, global collaborative project
