Beautiful Sunny Miami and the games begin.
4 December 2013
It starts with the wonderful Tracey Emin’s amazing opening at MOCA, Miami.
She was an absolute star and the Neon show was outstanding. We partied the night away in Soho Beach House till 4am!!!
Two big Tracey fans Peter Fleissig in a Margate T-shirt and Hamish McAlpine.
I had time before we arrived at the fair to check out Sam Falls’ beautiful flower paintings, they were all sold out before I arrived!
Then it was the art fair and as usual I had that feeling of a kid entering a sweet shop. This year the diversity on sale was incredible. My first stop was to check out Naomi Fisher and Jim Drain’s hidden bar, ‘Paradise Working Title.’
There were some serious gems and one lucky person went home with this genius Josh Tonsfeldt from Simon Preston gallery, which was also sold before I arrived!
Fantastic ‘Different Strokes’ by Robert Heinecken from 1970 at Petzel Gallery
Sam Durant at Sadie Coles had something to say.
Also at Sadie’s was Adriano Costa’s underwear piece ‘Rosa,’ which put a big smile on my face!
Sam Gilliam’s ‘Red Stanza’ 1969 at David Kordansky was quite outstanding. An artist I need to research.
Argentinian gallery Ruth Benzacar was showing some great works by Carlos Huffman.
My favourite work by Hans Op De Beeck, ‘Circular Pond’
Then quite a moment at Almine Rech gallery with Ida Tursic and Wilifried Mille, so refreshing to see a new discovery!
Tom Friedman’s Hamburger was once again begging for attention at Luhring Augustine.
Tracey’s sculptures at Lehmann Maupin were endearing.
My favourite work in the whole art fair was Ryan Gander’s wondering eyes, they followed you around the room. So alive!
The stars were out, Leonardo Di Caprio, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West and here is P. Diddy checking out some paintings with Gavin Brown.
Tiffany and Adam Fields posing in front of another version of Rob Pruitt’s panda. According to my UP band I had walked 9KM, my legs feel like two lumps of concrete!
