Berlin to London
30 June 2022
At Times Art Centre Berlin was the opening of ‘Wong Ping: Earwax’. The work is a statement about all the nonsensical behaviour during the pandemic, suggesting that all that is left is pure earwax created by the self
We went to KÖNIG GALERIE and enjoyed the beautiful garden and fantastic sculptures
We loved the work of Scottish artist Bruce McLean. His minimal interiors and ceramics are so familiar to my generation. Here is an example of his work in the home of Alfred Kornfeld
We had the privilege of meeting Alfred Kornfeld who is such an interesting person, and so passionate about his art
It was a privilege see Sterling Ruby’s show at Sprüth Magers. His ‘Flower’ works are made gestural by stabbing marks in the centre of the flowers
On the same floor hidden away was a gem of a work by Rosemarie Trockel
We loved this work by Louis Fratino, who is inspired by American and European modernism, and draws on his everyday life, the body, interiors and the landscape around him for his work
In the evening we went to a splendid dinner hosted by Klaus Biesenbach in his museum, Neue Nationalgalerie. Ukrainian artist and activist Maria Kulikovska lay wrapped in a Ukrainian flag on the stairs of the museum. This performance was originally performed on the stairs of the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg at the Manifesta 10 in July 2014
We finally make it out of town after a long wait at Berlin airport
Back to base where I see the work of Victor Seaward, current Invites artist at the Zabludowicz Collection
Adam D. Weinberg tries ‘Bet(a) Bodies’ by Keiken, who experiments with wearable technology
The Whitney Group loved Tabita Rezaire work ‘Sugar Walls Teardom’. The pink gynaecologist chair points to medical research conducted on unconsenting enslaved women in the 1800s
Then the happy group came to us to be fed and enjoyed the wonderful summery spring weather in London. Lovely to be home!
