CANNOT KEEP AWAY FROM NEW YORK
4 April 2013
Head out to Long Island City and drop by to The Freedom Factory - not much to see here -
all the studios were out of bounds and the art shows were down.
However we peaked round the door of the deceased artist Roy Gussow it was amazing to see everything left in place and thick layers of dust on this treasure chest of history.
Marquette’s were all over the place no hint of which of these dreams were made real.
Unusual shapes and sizes every corner
The garden was full of sculptural ghosts
I felt as if I had walked into another treasure chest at Laurel Gitlen, Corin Hewitt’s work, CSFGF, 2013
Bill Jenkins - his Table in Box will certainly be entering the collection.
Good paintings by Scott Olson at Wallspace.
Some New Young Hot Shot at Gagosian
Will Kurtz ‘Another Shit Show’ at Mike Weiss was a total show stopper.
All these revolting Newspaper dogs - there was no avoiding these works they were so entertaining. Gentleman and his dog.
Dog in an uncompromising position.
A wonderful Nick van Woert at London transplant Christopher Crescent
I found very interesting the group show at Foxy Productions curated by Alexander Shulman called HMV. The suit case full of Vodka and spray paint by a very interesting young artist called Bradley Kronz.
A new work by Nicolas Ceccaldi and Morag Keil.
In the back room more surprises a bronze by Sterling Ruby
Shoes with Silicone in them by Pamela Rosenkrantz
Talking of shoes this wonderful work by Mark Dion at Tanya Bonakdar.
Then I enter F.A.T Lab at Eyebeam - I feel I have stumbled on something great, fresh and new. A compilation of free spirited artists and musicians who have collaborated over the internet for five years, curated by Lindsay Howard, there was some very interesting work that had left the cyber world and entered the real world. As I entered I stumbled upon this chap sucked up by his Laptop. Laptop Compubody Sock by Becky Stern
I felt there was an American David Blandy brewing here… Online Gallery Playset by Aram Bartoll.
Shaved Bieber by Greg Leugh finally – a way to remove Justin Bieber from your web surfing…
F... Google Streetview Car FAT Lab.
Then it was the beautiful Hamptons a visit to the Old Parish Art Museum in ...
South Hampton.
Lovely gardens with delightful sculptures.
The collection was such an eclectic mixture they will sort themselves out with some genius curating and this magnificent museum will be perfect.
The new New Parish Museum in Watermill, by Herzog and de Meuron – a wonderful design.
We loved John Chamberlain Tambourinefrappe.
The Hamptons Houses were full of variations …from bowling alleys…
to train rooms…
