Finally Frieze
24 November 2019
I only had one day to enjoy Frieze Art Fair before I headed off to wedding. It was intense to say the least!
We hosted a lunch at home for Frieze, I had just enough time to hang our Ulrike Rosenbach pride of place
Then we had Afternoon Tea at the gallery for Shana Moulton, Puck Verkade and Rebecca Allen. Here is Paul Luckraft with Rebecca
I had time to visit 180 The Strand. The show was languidly curated with some hits and misses. It marks three years since Donna Huanca’s annual commission show at Zabludowicz Collection
Her work is as strong and poignant as ever
We walked through the labyrinth of corridors and finally came across a new work by Korakrit Arunanondchai, covered in paint and on an alternative spiritual path
His creatures surrounded us as we viewed the beautiful rituals of bathing in the waters of Asia
Then to The Connaught Hotel for a special dinner all around one very long table. Hosted by Hauser & Wirth for Mark Bradford’s exemplary show, here he is giving a heartfelt speech. What a memorable evening!
The next morning we held a very special breakfast at the lovely home of Marsha Lee. With David Gryn at the helm, Daata TV has launched 24 video artworks in your home at the press of a button
During the art fair the weather was, for the first time in a long time, good. First stop was Carlos/Ishikawa and a wonderful painting by Issy Wood on luscious black velvet
At Galerie Emanuel Layr there was a wonderful piece by Lena Henke
Simphiwe Ndzube, who we saw in Lyon, was showing at Stevenson gallery
The one that got away, Firelei Báez
We acquired for the Collection a work by the artist Megan Rooney, who also showed in Lyon
A great performance by Shezad Dawood, with dancers moving to space jazz
Meanwhile at Frieze Masters, Hyundai Gallery were showing Nam June Paik’s ‘My Faust-Communication’, 1989-1991
At 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair the work that stood out was this sculpture by Willie Cole
