Frieze 2018: Part One
29 October 2018
Frieze was there and gone in a flash!
I was lucky enough to have such lovely guests from all over the world for Afternoon Tea at the gallery. Gigi Grimstad advertised beautifully the Pinocchio book which was the inspiration for Rachel Maclean’s ‘Spite Your Face’ on show at the collection
Many of the girls dropped by for a cup of tea including Michaela de Pury and Eva Alecandridaa
We entered the humungous Frieze tent and we were immediately surrounded by some great works. First stop was straight to Stuart Shave where I fell in love with ‘Unemployed Journalist (Dave)’, 2018 by Josh Kline. I felt like I did not need to go elsewhere and I could leave for the day
I plodded on to Thaddaeus Ropac where I admired Alvaro Barrington’s work ‘A Straight Face’
Later I bumped into Gigi again at the fair with cool chic Leila Huth
New discovery at Breeder Gallery by Ariana Papademetropoulos
There was a lovely new work by Ida Ekblad at Herald St.
I often feel overwhelmed when an artist is over shown at an art fair by many galleries an example being Kaari Upson. I still love her mattress works, I feel they have a great synergy to the work of Rachel Whiteread and Heidi Bucher
We were happy to see at Alison Jacques Gallery a work by Dorothea Tanning called ‘Reality’ painted in 1973-83, very beautiful and a masterpiece
The Focus section had many interesting artists, at Edouard Malingue Gallery Chinese artist Wong Ping whom I liked and first saw at the New Museum
Also we loved the work by Zadie Xa at Union Pacific
At Canada gallery my favourite art dealer Phil Grauer…
…was showing work by artist Elizabeth McIntosh
My favourite Donna Huanca ever was at Peres Projects called ‘FEVREEZE’, which I assume was commissioned especially for Frieze
My best work at the fair were these wonderful boots by Sarah Lucas
A coordinated Alexandre da Cunha posed for me in front of his rope work at Galería Luisa Strina. Then it was it was off to the other side of the park to see Frieze Masters
