Frieze New York
4 June 2015
Day 1 was rather a long one so here's my part 2.
Anna K.E. was showing her work for the first time at Simone Subal gallery
How many of these Instagram works has Richard Prince produced? I really love them but they sell almost by remote control.
Everyone was showing off their new Pia Camil ponchos, she had created and given away 800 of them as part of her Frieze Project. Of course tartan for Eugenie Windsor and something a little more abstract for Tif Zab with Florian Meisenberg playing a support role.
Fabienne Stephan adorned in a denim creation to match her skirt and standing in front of a blazing yellow painting for contrast.
The massage chairs of Korakrit Arunanondchai were brilliant and an integral part of Frieze Projects, they really got some use.
If you weren’t keen on the chairs or when the art just got a bit too much, then a tired collector could grab a moment on the social benches installed around the fair. Much like these children who took great advantage.
Laure Prouvost’s tapestries at MOT International were sensational.
As were Milena Muzquiz’s cermamics at Galería Travesía Cuatro.
The Ed Fornieles t-shirts were a real steal at Carlos/Ishikawa.
The fair always provides a great chance to observe fashion as well as art.
Both Lizzie and I really liked the Gardar Eide Einarssons at Maureen Paley.
Eric Sidner from Johan Berggren Gallery, a new artist on the block or just my first sighting?
On the way out we had a chance encounter with Kasper Bosmans work at Marc Foxx Gallery, which brought the age old question of ‘art or not art?’ back into my mind.
The evening was then filled with the awesome Gorilla Girls at the Tate America’s Foundation dinner in the wonderful Seagram building. A great way to end the day.
