Frieze Week
17 October 2016
Frieze Week was amazing full of wonderful surprises.
It started with our Frieze VIP tea on Tuesday afternoon.
The performers were wonderful and unearthly, transcending to another plain.
Often putting audiences into a trance-like state.
Maitreyi curated the show and introduced it to our visitors.
We had amazing visitors including Tracey Emin who came to give some of her magical support to Donna.
The Rubells also dropped by to give their support.
The performers looked almost primeval in appearance.
Their bodies were painstakingly painted in such exquisite colours and textures
which extended to their fabulous props and costumes pieces that Donna had also created.
Then it was the first day of Frieze with a rush of works and people to see. We bumped into Michael Landy and his stacks which represented his perfected style of everyday minimalism.
There were lovely moments with the unexpected gathering of Chloe Wise, Sam Falls and our wonderful Jon Rafman all at once.
Our favourite booth was Hauser and Wirth full of wonderment and curiosities from Louise Bourgeois to Paul McCarthy.
The work of Marguerite Humeau at Clearing Gallery was impressive. We acquired a wonderful work for the Collection and were happy to hear that the Palais De Tokyo show was travelling to Nottingham Contemporary.
Yu Honglei, the partner of Guan Xiao, had created a very interesting work including a jewelled shower.
A lovely moment at Peres projects with Donna, Jon, Tif Zab and Richie Shazam.
We enjoyed the over the top girly-pinkness of Portia Munson's work
and loved the live performances - this one was by Martha Aranujo at Galeria Jaqueline Martins.
We bumped into Marianne Simnett, such a wonderful artist, and my new NBF Miggi Hood
Sunday art fair was fabulous and there were a few discoveries. We loved the work of Ariane Schick at Super Dakota.
We had time to attend the lunch for Toby Ziegler at which Toby spoke so thoughtfully of his gallerist Simon Lee.
Then a final mention for Daata Editions - Artie Vierkant's new film was exceptional.
And Keren Cytter's free to download video was a show stopper. The little corner in the back of the reading room stood its ground and proudly presenting the most wonderful moving image works.
