I had tremendous fun visiting the art colleges - as many as possible. Alas I missed Chelsea, Royal College, Camberwell and Wimbledon this year. My team managed most of the ones I missed. I did manage to drop by to Central Saint Martins and the students had pulled out all the stops out and made a huge effort and created some enveloping atmospheres.
We acquired a small video work by a young Austrian artist called Dagmar Schurrer.<br><br>Then to Slade where there were two artists who were on my radar. First was Benedict Drew which had originality - he had projected image on to the black screen of an old monitor. He was exploring different techniques to develop his ideas which were also interesting.<br><br>The other Helen Benigson - once again using video. She has her own British Brand of Ryan Trecartin, much of it is based on performance. <br><br>Many of the artists - even perhaps the majority - at Slade were Asian. I found this a little difficult and I imagine it has something to do with funding. The last stop was the Royal Academy and it all looked very minimal in contrast to Slade and St Martins. I found the work of Tomas Downes and Nicholas Hatfull the most interesting.<br><br>I finally ended up at Tracey’s shopping experience in the Wonder Room at Selfridges where she had managed to make us feel very very comfortable. Amanda Eliasch and Kay Saatchi arrived from LA both stunned by the success of Amanda’s Neon show The Seven Deadly Sins.<br><br>After a wedding blitz (five weddings in all) Israel Rome and Nice I found myself landed at the Serpentine party. From white to black. The look this year was GLUM everything black including the weather and the Pavilion by Peter Zumthor. But this certainly was not the actual mood - there was a vibrant party - by far the best party in town. The girls all looked great.
