Miami Basel Day 1
16 December 2014
At last I am in the sunshine in Miami. Euphoria and sun!
After a long flight it was wonderful to be greeted by the brilliant Miami landscape.
The weather took a turn for the worse later on with Lizzie and I being absolutely drenched on our way to Soho House to hear Jon Rafman talk. But it was hard to dampen our spirits as we soaked up the atmosphere during an amazing BMW sponsored talk organised and hosted by the quick drying Francesca Gavin
Arriving the day before gave us a chance to check out UNTITLED, which was full of surprises. Artist Shaan Syed found a good way to fill the booth whilst waiting for his paintings to get through customs at Ana Cristea Gallery.
T Shirt! ‘Art or not art?’
We loved the work by Alberto Borea.
Asya Geisberg Gallery led to the discovery of a very interesting painter; Angelina Gualdoni.
Inman Gallery also provided another gem with the artist Michael Jones McKean
African photographer Leonce Raphael Agbodjelou was incredibly strong at Jack Bell Gallery
Steve Turner Contemporary were showing some thirst quenching works by Yung Jake
Then the lovely painter Fabrizio Arrieta, who seems to be a cross between Cris Brodahl and Avery Singer.
We finished up the day with old friends at Casa Tua. It was a sad moment to not have David Teiger with us, such a lovely man and an inspiring collector.
