New Year... Back to work!
18 January 2012
Even with the lurghy I still managed to plod my way through the first week back at work...
Amanda Levete, Chantal Joffe and Myself selecting the winner from the 30 artists in show– they were drilled down from the 10,000 UAL graduates last year.
The show is great - there were queues down the street as hundreds of wonderful supporters came to see it
And the unanimous winner was... Wei Wang. One of her incredible ceramic evening bags.
Wei Wang very proudly accepting the Zabludowicz Future Map Art Prize from myself and Nigel Carrington. The show is really strong on design – perhaps an indication that boundaries begin to blurr into each other more and more. Wei's bags are certainly works of art.
A very proud sponsor from GAM, Jeremy Smouha.
Wei Wang’s fellow student Pip Jolley who looked as beautifully presented as her fabulous revamped 1940s hair and jewellery accessories.
My fantastic fellow judges - Amanda Levete and Chantal Joffe. Inspirational people.
The next day was Benedict Drew’s opening – he is our first ‘Invites’ artist. A new one year project where eleven unrepresented artists living in Britain are given the platform to make and show new work here in London. We gave Ben Poju’s old TV (from his 1980s bachelor pad!) to work with. On this TV I watched the Berlin Wall being torn down! To our surprise we were swamped again with hundreds of guests – luckily we had great Pizza and beer by our local brewery to offer them. Well done Ben!
