New York and Miami
10 December 2015
We arrive in New York and breathe in the electricity of the city
We headed straight to visit Katy at The Hole and took in their latest show ‘NOT A PHOTO.’ Great photo of Ryder Ripps’ mom Helene with Kathy Grayson and their chocolate doggies.
Then we were down to Miami and talking of four legged creatures, Tiffany and I fell in love with Tony Tasset’s ‘Bambi’ outside the Bass Museum.
Untitled Art Fair had us immediately questioning ‘art or not art?’ with this sand sculpture.
But it got so much better, particularly with the wonderful 'Double Arc' by Amanda Keeley. I was curious if the buyer gets to keep the dancers.
The queues into Art Basel Miami were very undignified. Herding the ‘shoppers’ and heads of major institutions into sheep pens. Lots of bleating!
Everyday objects were the key theme of the fair, there was a huge amount. Loved this Charles Harlan at JTT.
At The Approach, Amanda Ross-Ho’s towels had developed into dirty splotchy artworks!
Mixers with real yoghurt. Gili Tal’s ‘But The World Keeps On Turning' at Sandy Brown in NADA kept the gallery staff occupied with having to reinstall them each day.
Los Carpinteros were showing their fantastic melting Cuban drums.
Not so much painting and photography this year but this Camille Henrot’s New York skyscraper at KÖNIG Galerie was fabulous.
The de la Cruz Collection had some unquestionably great works on show, including this Guyton/Walker.
