READY STEADY GO
12 March 2013
And we are off to the Armory - awaiting us were huge Warholesque Brillo Boxes.
People were encouraged around the fair with Brillo Boxes in arms signed by artist Charles Lutz.
Then it was walkabout and I stumbled on the amazing work of Morgan Tschiembers “Shimmering Substances” from the Loevenbruck gallery.
We loved the Raphael Zarka work who will be showing in Sound Spill in May at our space in New York.
We had time to check out a few things in Chelsea and were perplexed by the intricacy of Dieter Roth in the new humungous Hauser and Wirth Space.
Roy, Richard, Thom, Poju and Lizzie hanging out in the kitchen
Anton Kern had a festive colourful Wilhelm Sasnal
Back to the fair I loved the work of Adam Marnie at David Eller gallery.
Nicole Eisenman at Leo Koenig was strong.
Lizzie checking out the intricate work of Jonathan Marshall “ A homage to Mathew Day Jackson”
A great sense of humour was the work of Jon Pylypchuk, showing naughty cigarette people.
Another cigarette person
Murray Guy had a great sound show in Chelsea by composer Sergei Tcherepnin.
Zach Feuer had an amazing show of Nathalie Djurberg it was very impressive.
The evening was awesome, our host was Mathew Day Jackson and he gave a wonderful birthday dinner for Jorg Grimm who is admiring his Birthday Cake with Dave McDermott and friends.
Then at the Birthday Party our Sound Spill boys Richard and Thom already hanging out with Jonathan Marshall and his lovely girlfriend.
Next day it was back to business and an early visit to VOLTA where the fun Mark Jenkins had made his mark.
Balazs Kicsiny had not yet made his mark.
Independent was fun and full of surprises. I managed to acquire another magnificent Renaud Regnery from Elizabeth Dee, this was very exciting.
Then Approach and Modern Art had almost joined at the hip as they hung out with each other side by side at Independent. Jake and Stuart had morphed into each other wearing exactly the same hairstyle and beard. If any of you get them mixed up out there you are forgiven.
Some beautiful Dordoy works were there to be admired at the Modern Institute.
Then another partnership had occurred Bonnie Clearwater and Alex Gartenfeld had joined forces and North Miami Museum.
Myself and Pam Sanders and Jill Bernstein having a bucket of fun.
Then we ran in the rain to the Bowery to the 1993 show at the New Museum which was a must see show stopper! Jason Rhodes’ installation, his first work after college, was all part of the 1993 experience. The Zabludowicz Collection had not started until 1994 and not really picking up on the vibe properly until 1995.
Lizzie and Jill running and laughing in the horrible rain.
Last stop America Contemporary to see Joel Holmberg.
The evening was held at the Milk building in Chelsea given by the unusual MANA group in tribute to Marina Abramovic’s new performing arts project upstate where she was interviewed by the famous Charlie Rose. An unusual ambitious business concept and independent approach to art.
Then it was New York private home visits. Very clever sophisticated collectors had decided to install a Virginia Overton work of art in front of their fire place in the middle of Manhattan! Very Cool for School I thought...
A whole green house was alive with Sea Monkeys floating around almost rat-size. It was very eerie and creepy, an old work by Ted Victoria called “Is Any One Home” at the Moving Image Fair.
I also enjoyed this work by Janet Biggs.
