Starting the season
16 November 2022
I visited Design Helsinki to check out Habitare which was fantastic. There was an amazing stand of furniture, and Daata was part of the installation too! An incredible success, curated by Anna Mustonen
Then it was straight to Berlin and PalaisPopulaire to discover the incredible LuYang: DOKU - Experience Center, inspired by sci-fi, manga, gaming and techno culture. We loved every minute. This is DOKU Hungry Ghost
This is DOKU Animal. The DOKU are the portals that take you from one world to another in Buddhist meditation. I have always been intrigued by meditation; more exciting than Netflix!
Lizzie and I with the incredible Svenja Gräfin von Reichenbach and Britta Faerber from Deutsche Bank
We made it to the Schinkel Pavilion for the performance of Anna Uddenberg’s ‘Fake-Estate’, which saw male models wearing nappies move around the room entering into strange contraptions and holding poses
I felt very uneasy during the performance and didn’t find it humorous. There was an overbearing sense of vulnerability and redundancy of the male
Downstairs, I was on much more familiar ground a major solo show by Jon Rafman, ‘Egregores & Grimoires’ which explored the internet and its impact on our human consciousness
We went to visit the magnificent Marnie Weber show which Tatiana Roth had helped curate
At Société Berlin, we were very excited about the opening of Marianna Simnett’s show. Our favourite piece was the crown
It was wonderful to catch up with Puck Verkade and her partner Thomas van Linge
Marianna was protecting me under her sparkly wings in front of her wonderfully weird drawings!
Such a lovely dinner with Lizzie, Karen Boros and Marianna Simnett
An amazing surprise was the incredible installation of Rachel Rossin. She was totally on fire, as was the house she had filmed and we held in VR in our hands
