Still in The USA
2 March 2020
Over in the UK, Linder opened a solo show at Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge which featured this treasured work
In LA there was still plenty to see. We checked out Jeffrey Deitch’s show ‘All of Them Witches’ which was a little overcrowded but there were plenty of hidden gems, such as Trulee Hall’s ‘Witches House’
Jane Kaplowitz’ work was haunting and hostile, looking at all sorts of religions and incantations
At a collectors house it was great to see Donna Huanca’s limited edition shoes she produced for Zabludowicz Collection to mark her annual commission with us back in 2016
The Brutally Early lectures lead me to MOCA where Hans Ulrich Obrist and Klaus Biesenbach were in conversation with Simone Forti, who is influenced by the Japanese Gutai movement
Then I headed off to Mary Weatherford’s studio where Mark Godfrey interviewed her along with Maria Balshaw
Mary’s work was about to be shipped to Gagosian in London. The paintings were very gestural and impressive
At LACMA, 99 year old Luchita Hurtado said some wonderfully inspiring things, including ‘I am very grateful for the way I am made’, ‘life is a banquet’, ‘nature is so talented, you really smell the roses, look around you are surrounded by magic, ‘trees are like friends, our relatives who help us, hug a tree today’, and ’birth comes with sin but the most beautiful part of it’
It was a treat to see who was lurking amongst Chris Burden’s street lamps outside LACMA
Arcmanoro Niles had a wonderful show ‘I Guess By Now I'm Supposed To Be A Man: I'm Just Trying to Leave Behind Yesterday’ at UTA Artist Space
We visited Jordan Wolfson and his dog at his studio. We learnt about his top secret violent robotic show which will be shown in Canberra this September
It was great to visit Stefan Simchowitz and his lovely friends who were walking around in pyjamas, they were showing the work of outsider artist Paa Joe and his elaborate coffins
I then had a very special visit to the studio of Trulee Hall. We are beyond excited about her performance at the gallery on March 12th and her solo exhibition with us in September
Trulee cuddling her lovely little dog surrounded by her remarkable artworks
A quick stop in Vegas where I am designing a few interiors. At the Wynn check in I spotted a magnificent Larry Pittman work
It was very exciting to be attending the AFIM dinner where Larry was the guest of honour, here he is being interviewed by Connie Butler
