The Art FAIRy

The Art FAIRy
I arrive back from New York, open the ever diminishing post as these days it everything is sent online.
Lo and behold artist Stuart Doncaster sends us a unmissable invite for degree show at Goldsmiths.

Then we take a visit to Pinta Art Fair in Earls Court and we are immediately attracted by Lygia Clark's performance piece at Alison Jaques; it was most impressive.Sucking in thread and then spewing it out then tying up their friend.
Contemporary Art Society displaying a fabulous poster of Lizzie and Josh Baum at 176.
Stephen Friedman had a blockbuster show, Sarah Braman, Erin Shirreff and Jim Hodges. Erin standing like a proud mother in front of her strong new art works.
Tiffany with Jim who loves Erin's work and gave us a tour around his new mirror works.
Then it was straight to Liste in Basel. I loved the work of Andrew Boot also shown in MOT in London. A poetic work of ribbons of different colours thrown in wax.
Gallery Kaskadenkondensater from Basel was really fun: something strange going on with two ladies and plants.
Laurel Gitlen's stand was great and Erik Wysokan showed great wit.
Johnathan Viner introduces Nic Deshayes' work to the art world.
Finally we bump into the “yellow art fairy” Jack Strange who is proudly showing his solo show at Limoncello.
Then it was to the Art Unlimited and this is what happens when Franz West is let loose a little bit more than usual.
Stefan finally gets eaten by an art work.
Then it was a relaxing night with Team Dane organised by Francois Chantala. It was a fabulous evening and so chilled just what we need before the rush.
And rush it was, a rugby scrum, push and shove. Does not matter how refined a person may be when it comes to getting into Basel all gloves are off. It is one of the most funniest scenes in the art world: men in suits and handkerchiefs and women with the Hermes handbags fighting to get in.The art fair did very well and there were record sales for many. I witnessed fighting on the booths.
Loved the new work of Dan Rees called Vacuum Painting at Baronian Francey.
Nick Relph's work at Herald Street I thought was the most suggestive of all, to no avail could we find the engine!
Jim Lambie as usual had come up with so many new concepts and work called “Prick up your Ears”
To Jim Jams in Jam Jars!
Andrew from Modern Institute showing Lizzie the new Simon Starling work which I thought was fascinating.
Richard Hughes' work “Perpetual Dawn”, doing his thing, old cushion with mould....!
The art in Basel this year had a lot of humour we loved the work of Sarah Lucas on Sadie Coles' stand.
The girls, Alex Tuttle soon to be married to artist Alex Hubbard and Carol Greene proudly showing of her Mary Katrantzou jacket complemented each other to perfection.
We fell in love with Haim Steinbach's “Umberto” work at Tanya Bonakdar.
Cajsa von Zeipel young Swedish artist at Andrehn Schiptjenko, her work “Hater” had a certain presence.
Also in the gallery once again Tony Matelli made my head and camera turn towards his artwork “Josh”
On the theatrical stand of Emmanuel Perrotin hidden amongst the Murakamis and Kaws was this lad called “Jade” by Daniel Firman who is demonstrating how I sometimes feel in an art fair.
A beautiful Donald Judd at Werner.
Dahn Vo “From cortex, CO to Comar” whatever that may mean.
As I am leaving everything starts to become a Blurr or did I say Burr. No actually Jannis Kounellis.
As we crawl out of the wine cellar after a delightful dinner hosted by Michaela and Simon de Pury with the most interesting company for dinner, I finally get to meet to meet the famous Alex Israel who is all the rage, (I love his TV interviews best. Check them out) and my lovely Javier Peres who I had not seen for ages who is on good form.

Now it off to Finland to our special weekend to unveil Matthew Day Jackson's mega installation. We are all looking forward to this big time..... We have invited a few guinea pigs this weekend to come check us out! WATCH THIS SPACE?
