The Big Tent Frieze 2023
27 March 2023
We kicked things off with a great visit to Regen Projects where we saw the incredible works of Elliott Hundley at his show 'Echo', which was made up of works from the last 20 years and inspired by his beloved studio in downtown
His bronze sculptures were as intricate and stunning as his paintings
There was a surprise in every corner of the gallery
Finally, we made it to the big tent! First stop was James Fuentes, and I liked the Danilo Stojanović's work 'The Clairvoyant'
We had a lovely breakfast and I tried to steal this amazing wave handbag without success!
Chloe Wise's work at Almine Rech was stunning and haunting
The work of Trey Abdullah was completely mesmerising at David Lewis Gallery
Jordan Wolfson at Sadie Coles was an absolute showstopper!
Tiffany's favourite was at Sean Kelly by Anthony Akinbola who was born in Columbia and raised by Nigerian parents, and this work celebrates his culture and identity
It was wonderful to see my lovely collector friend Paul Ettinger, who I interviewed over lockdown, here in front of the humongous André Butzer painting in a collector's friend's home
We had time to relax and catch up with Chloe Wise and friends
At the Geffen was an incredible show with beautiful, dreamy screens presenting Garrett Bradley work in which Bradley constructed a visual archive of early African American cinema and poignantly asks what it might mean to model a history of black visuality and representation that privileges depictions of pleasure over spectacles of pain
An incredibly thoughtful work by Tala Madani in her show 'Biscuits'. Madani's paintings reflect the deeply-seated cultural fears, conflicts, and desires of our present day. Rich in narrative and heavy in irony, they elicit curiosity, fantasy, and repulsion
Then it was time to rest on the Sabbath at Sam and Shanit Schwartz and say goodbye to LA. Here snapped in front of their Oscar Murillo with Loree Redkin
A lovely cosy moment with collector Carol Server, Michaela Neumeister and Daniela Gerah. Next up Australia for a family event!
