The Cologne Galleries
12 May 2017
The fair was one thing but the energy inside the galleries was unreal
At Jan Kaps, Jean-Marie Appriou’s new show ‘Harvest’ had an incredible vivaciousness and vigour to it. Here is the artist next to his glass portraits, which I particularly loved
Another gem was the woman in a rainbow formation cascading over a flower filled glass bowl. These works were inspired by Appriou’s dreams
Everything we saw seemed to be a dream-like fantasy. Such as ‘Nut Rage’ 2015 which we spotted at Danny McDonalds’ show ‘The Beads & Other Objects’ at Kölnischer Kunstverein
Another new discovery was the wonderful world of Claus Richter at Clages
Richter’s show was called ‘Living in another world’ and it sure was. I was soaking it all in as I walked around, listening to singing orchids and talking vacuum cleaners. Here is the artist in front of ‘To-Do-Bear’
In his ‘Hoarding Hamster’ series a hamster is harvesting away at goodness knows what!
The grand finale was Rose Wylie’s show ‘Cupid & Fur Coat’ at Choi & Lager. Playing well… winning shot
