I loved Frieze this time. It was very breezy and not too crowded and I felt no pressure.
My Chinese/ Canadian /Russian Lil Sis Yana gave us the sign and we were off!
Each gallery felt to me if they had been handpicked very carefully for the fair. All the Galleries had brought various works and all of good quality. None of the booths were overcrowded and all of them were presented in an orderly way so I was able to absorb and not get too cross-eyed.My favourite moment was the Grizedale projects where Eastside’s Gavin Wade and Ruth Claxton were selling artist breads.
Jars and things were all over the place.
I have no idea what these performers were up to they were improvising well and interacting with the audience. Very entertaining.
Thomas Dane stand I thought was the best this year, showing from Alexandre de Cunha sculptures to Caragh Thuring’s paintings.
Lizzie and I were besotted with Adriano Costa, with Mendes Wood from Brazil where we acquired the whole installation. We had already done our homework when Lizzie was in Brazil last month. She spotted him and I researched him on the internet.
A fun moment for us at Carlos/Ishikawa’s stand in Frieze Frame with Ed Fornieles.
I acquired this great work which is a collaged web feed at real time (never the same picture repeated twice) of ‘summer’ aka woman in bikinis. Then at the same time Ed set up his Charactedate Bureau which is a dating service. Where the volunteer becomes someone else and takes a date at the fair…
Oscar Murillo’s work at Modern Art was very impressive.
One of my favourite artists Geoffrey Farmer had built a witty installation at Casey Kaplan.
As was also the new work of Jay Heikes on the Marianne Boesky stand.
I was so pleased to see that Ryan Trecartin and Lizzie Fitch had started working together with Andrea Rosen a dream team.
Frieze Projects - looking good as ususal!
Managed to stay up very late and watch the magical performance with Theaster Gates and the Black Monks of Mississippi at Ronnie Scotts.
