About

A new educational initiative launching this year as part of our annual Testing Ground for Art and Education, Testing Ground: Master Class invites leading international artists to share their expertise with a small group of emerging artists from around the country over a five day intensive, led by artist Doug Fishbone.

Join us each evening for a public lecture by the artists.

Brian Griffiths’ sculptures collage together the debris of everyday life, transforming the mundane into vehicles for the imagination. Drawing inspiration from old textbooks, bric-a-brac, furniture and cast-offs, his works playfully invoke a childlike wonder while acknowledging a melancholy within such make-believe.

Brian Griffiths was born in 1968, Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK. Griffiths studied at the University of Humberside in 1992 before completing his studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London in 1996. He has recently participated in large scale solo presentations at exhibitions including; The Invisible Show, Vilma Gold, London, 2012; Grimm Gallery, Asmterdam, 2011; Another End, Vilma Gold, London, 2008; The Man Who Loved Islands, Arnolfini, Bristol, 2007; My Beloved Traitor, Luisa Strina, Sao Paolo, Brazil, 2005; Some Unaccountable Blindness, The Breeder, Athens, 2004.

Recent group exhibitions include; No Now!, Space Station 65, London, 2012; The Extension, Vilma Gold, London, 2011; Rude Britannia: British Comic Art, Tate Britain, London, 2010; British Art Show 7: In the Days of the Comet, Hayward Touring Exhibition, 2010; Beating the Bounds: Art Now, Tate Britain, London, 2009.
