About

Bridging experimental pop music and ritualistic world-building, multidisciplinary artist Rieko Whitfield performs unreleased music from her debut EP Regenesis (dropping 14 October, 2023).

Whitfield’s practice draws from microcosms of lived experience, weaving non-linear speculative mythologies into expanded performance. Intimacy and power blend seamlessly in her rebellious approach to music – influenced by her early years of classical violin training, her upbringing in Shinto and Buddhist philosophy, her teenage experiences in heavy metal subcultures, and her background in performance art.

The event “Ashes to Ashes” transforms the main gallery of the former chapel into a club – an evening featuring her live musical performance, alongside a dance performance by movement artist Yen-Ching Lin, the debut club remix of Whitfield’s single by Luca Eck, and the premiere of her music video.

“Ashes to Ashes” is your invitation to a sonic and embodied conjuring toward collective healing.

Bar open from 7pm, and the event will start at 8pm.

PLEASE NOTE: this evening's performance may include strobe lighting.

Rieko Whitfield is a Japanese-American artist whose experimental pop music from her unreleased debut EP Regenesis has been making waves in the London art scene. As a current artist in residence at the Tate Modern and a recent graduate of the Royal College of Art, she has been gaining a cult following through live performances equally suited for the club and the museum, with recent performances at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Institute of Contemporary Arts.

Regenesis is part of a larger world-building project that centres on life, death, rebirth and the power of community in embodying alternative futures.
