Performance: World Receivers

This event expands the themes of World Receivers through an evening of previously unseen live performance. In Osiris, artist Jennifer Taylor presents a processional ritual, responding to the specific architecture of the gallery, while exhibiting artist Hayden Dunham creates a new performance, In Syncing, with collaborator Jack Armitage, informed by research undertaken during an onsite residency at Eden Project in Cornwall. Dunham will perform a related performance, At the Mouth of the Sky, at Eden Project on Thursday 11 July.

Jack Armitage is a designer, musician, artist, technologist and researcher, currently a PhD student in the Augmented Instruments Lab at Queen Mary University of London, and previously a research engineer at ROLI. He performs live coding music and visuals as Lil Data (PC Music), and produces music as half of the band Offer (with Adult Jazz vocalist Harry Burgess). Across all of his projects he envisions humane computational media. He tutors in interaction design at the Royal College of Art, hosts workshops in live coding and digital musical instrument design, and contributes to open source projects.

Hayden Dunham’s (b. 1988, Austin, Texas, USA) sculptures are living and transformational in nature, actively relating with the environment in which they are placed. Her constantly evolving practice derives from a personal interest in ecological studies, and her choice of materials evokes both aesthetic and emotional responses. She explores ideas of systems, state change and energy, and is invested in the active exchange of this energy. Dunham lives and works in Los Angeles and New York, USA

Jennifer Taylor works with live performance, film and installation to create absurd scenarios with abstracted narratives that explore ritualistic behaviour and systems of control. By merging notions of a mystical ancient past with sci-fi fantasies of an imagined distant future, she presents an intense fusion of ambiguous fictional realities. Taylor was born in Wales and studied at the Ruskin School of Art (University of Oxford) and the Royal College of Art in London. She was a recent award-holder at the British School at Rome and is now based in Cardiff.
