Study Session: Slowness, staging and post-truth

Organised in collaboration with Photography and the Contemporary Imaginary Research Hub at London College of Communication, this afternoon of experimental discussion explores the possibility and potential of photography in the contemporary moment, prompted by a round table conversation between exhibiting artists Lucas Blalock, Sara Cwynar and Erin Shirreff, which took place late last year.

The afternoon begins with a preface by Yve Lomax, Senior Research Tutor, Photography at the Royal College of Art. Her presentation is followed by readings from the published round table discussion by actor Harry Jardine, and responses by invited guests, including Edward Dimsdale, photographer, writer and Senior Lecturer, Cambridge School of Art; writer and critic Emily LaBarge; and Wiebke Leister, Course Leader for MA Photography at London College of Communication. Writer and performance poet, Francesca Beard, brings the afternoon to a close with a shared exploration into confessions, post-truth and perceived realities.
