Clay Pop Opens in New York
8 September 2021
Ceramics take centre stage in Clay Pop, a group exhibition opening on 10 September at Jeffrey Deitch in New York. Often overlooked as a craft rather than art, “Artists are taking a traditional medium and turning it on its head,” says exhibition curator Alia Williams.
All 37 artists featured in the show are an engaged community taking clay as a medium to explore issues of gender, race and identity, tackling social issues and creating a personal narrative through ceramic sculpture. Clay Pop features a number of LA-based artists that work particularly closely, sometimes even sharing a studio or kiln.
Zabludowicz Collection has a long-standing commitment to ceramics, and several Collection artists are included in Clay Pop such as Trisha Baga, Sharif Farrag, Lindsey Mendick and Brian Rochefort.
