Ericka Beckman at KANAL, Brussels
23 January 2019
Opening 23 January 2019, Ericka Beckman (b. 1951) will be presenting The Super-8 Trilogy across the entire floor of the KANAL Showroom in Belgium. Curated by Philippe-Alain Michaud and in a new configuration, The Super-8 Trilogy, will be exhibited in the form of an installation flooding over the frame of the screen and into a playful environment ‘scattered with set pieces and punctuated by colourful lights’. This trilogy was made between 1978 and 1981 and was inspired by the Swiss psychologist and epistemologist Jean Piaget (1896–1980).
Last year in 2018, American artist, Ericka Beckman presented her first major solo exhibition in the UK at Zabludowicz Collection. Presenting four seminal works from the Collection that span over 30 years of genre-defying filmmaking, Ericka Beckman opened alongside a solo exhibition by British artist Marianna Simnett. Parts of which will be touring to FACT in Liverpool this March. These Zabludowicz Collection exhibitions continued the Collection’s 2018 focus on artists’ film and video and examining ideas of embodiment and performance of identity in relation to technology.
