Gillian Wearing: Wearing Masks at the Guggenheim

Opening 5 November, Gillian Wearing: Wearing Masks at the Guggenheim in New York is the first retrospective of the artist’s work in North America. With more than 100 artworks on display, this exhibition traces Wearing’s development from her earliest Polaroids to her latest self-portraits, all of which explore the performative nature of identity. Included in the exhibition are a number of works loaned by the Zabludowicz Collection including Mask Masked, a sculpture the artist made in 2020, during the pandemic.
Coinciding with this exhibition, Public Art Fund have unveiled a new 5’6” life-size bronze sculpture by Gillian Wearing of legendary photographer, Diane Arbus. This sculpture can be seen at the entrance of Central Park at the Doris C. Freedman Plaza.
