Haroon Mirza's A C I D G E S T opens at Pérez Art Museum Miami

Haroon Mirza has created a new eight speaker commission titled A C I D G E S T for the Pérez Art Museum Miami, which opened 21 July 2017. For this project, Mirza has made a specialised technical system that transmits an electrical current through speakers and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that act in coordination with one another so that different colours are activated by corresponding noise frequencies. This system produces a choreographed experience of sound and light based on compositions created by the artist in relation to individual artworks from the museum’s permanent collection, and will be the dynamic centerpiece of an installation that redefines the viewer's phenomenological experience of the space.

Haroon Mirza is famous for his use of electricity as a material with which he orchestrates light, sound and video to produce kinetic sculptures, performances and immersive installations. He has undertaken the Zabludowicz Collection Annual Commission in 2017, with collaboration exhibition and events programme HRM199: FOR A PARTNERSHIP SOCIETY, opening Thursday 28 September.
