Kevin Beasley work appearing in group show A Moment of Grace at Modern Art Oxford
19 April 2016
Kevin Beasley's sound and sculptural installation ...for this moment, this moment is yours... will be displayed in the UK for the first time as part of a group exhibition at Modern Art Oxford. A Moment of Grace will consider how artists of different generations have subverted the conventions of the art world through their practice. ...for this moment, this moment is yours... comprises of 52 reels of audio tape that edit together 4000 cassettes gathered from family, friends, record and thrift stores. Each reel contains 40 hours of sound and music, with the front and back of the tape played simultaneously and continuously during the gallery’s opening hours, one reel for each week of the year. Beasley’s work is interested in how the materiality of tape enables these accidental conjunctions and ambiguities within once familiar and often very personal objects and sounds. It will be shown alongside work by Njideka Akunyili Crosby, John Latham, Jac Leirner, David Maljkovic, Gustav Metzger, Gareth Nyandoro, Yoko Ono, Open Music Archive and Guan Xiao, until 10 June 2016. Further information is available on the Modern Art Oxford website.
