Rebecca Ackroyd’s Exhibition, 100mph

Once again, Rebecca Ackroyd has dug down into existing objects and memories and reconfigured them into something new, with her second solo exhibition at Peres Projects in Berlin, Germany.

On entering 100mph, Rebecca Ackroyd has overtaken the space bringing the gallery walls in closer, hanging the works from temporary, support structures against white dust sheets and made smaller pod-like gallery spaces with transparent plastic dividers.

This dream-like landscape allows for an intimate viewing experience, and the use of building site materials feels as though Ackroyd has brought the outside inside, a theme that was present in her 2017 Zabludowicz Collection Invites exhibition installation, The Root.

Hair is often a subject of Ackroyd’s works on paper, like this large-scale pastel drawing, which is a part of the exhibition. The fishnet laced thigh, visible through a fur-like ripped jean, references the artist's dreams.

Through shifting scales and moods, from the arrestingly bold and absurd to the subtle and intimate, Ackroyd's work pursues a feminist exploration of the psychology of space and the ownership of bodies.
